Joy Mitchell Grenfell Sprague, 76

Joy Mitchell Grenfell Sprague, age 76, passed away Aug. 17, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nev., with her family by her side. Joy was born in Ogden, Utah, to parents Rae Ellsworth Mitchell and Carol Mae Jensen Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lee; and her husband of 53 years, Jim. Joy is survived by her two children, Doug (Cathlyn) Grenfell and Rhonda (Jeff) Story; her younger brother, Kent (Terry) Mitchell and her two grandchildren, Jim Story and Sara Story.

Joy graduated from Ogden High in 1960. She worked at Hill Air Force Base, the family’s service station and Target. After raising her family and retiring from Target, she traveled with her late spouse full-time, until he passed unexpectedly in 2015. Joy was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Merlin, after 60 years, and they were married on May 11, 2019. She spent her final years, happily ever after, in Las Vegas with him.

Joy was a lover of wildflowers, the color purple, cake decorating, sewing and painting. She always had a smile and never judged a soul. She was very accepting. Joy was always the first one to get down on the floor and play with the kids, especially her grandkids. She loved big — and always took the time to listen. She believed the best in others and brought out the best in others.

Although we miss her dearly, we know she is in a good place and we look forward to seeing her there!

Please join us at her celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the Rathdrum Senior Center, 8037 W. Montana St., Rathdrum, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Rathdrum Senior Center, 8037 W. Montana St., Rathdrum, ID 83858.
