SHERIFF: Vote for Whitehead

| September 13, 2019 1:00 AM

While following the Kootenai County Sheriff’s race, I noticed a troubling trend beginning to arise. Two of the candidates have been courting votes by documenting the merits of their service and accomplishments. The other two candidates appear to be trying to pull voters to them by digging up negatives on their opponents.

I’ve come to this conclusion in part by statements I heard these candidates make and in part by comments I’ve heard from others that these candidates employ, yes, pay for, individuals to look for faults or weaknesses in their opponents. What a shame that this kind of negative campaign behavior has begun so early. Usually it’s the candidates with the least amount of qualifications that resort to these tactics.

Haven’t we had enough of this negative behavior on a national level for the past three years? Do we really have to experience this behavior in our community? I really hoped that our county’s candidates would be above this, but, well… Why can’t we have qualified people tell us why we should vote for them, rather than why we shouldn’t vote for the other guy? If everyone just put their personal qualifications and achievements out for us to see, the good people of Kootenai County could make up our own minds who is best suited to be our next sheriff. These are just some of the reasons that I’m supporting Rick Whitehead for sheriff.
