TURKEYS: IDFG fix the problem
IDFG needs to clean up the mess they created. Since introducing the Rio Grande, non native wild turkey, to Idaho near Riggins in 1961 the birds have migrated and multiplied like wildfire.
Thirty years ago where I live just outside town, we would have two or three turkeys in the neighborhood. Today, we have up to five flocks from nine to 12 come through our property every day. They have become a nuisance and I believe it should be IDFG’s responsibility to do something about it.
We have one person on Shaw Loop who is feeding them through the winter and we just keep having increased numbers of hatches and more of them are surviving every year.
They have no functioning natural predator with the exception of hawks when they are small and no one seems to be hunting them in areas outside Coeur d’Alene. The coyote could help the problem but they are becoming scarcer in rural areas outside town as Coeur d’Alene grows uncontrollably.
Wake up IDFG and fix the problem you created. With your management style, it is no wonder the deer population has also become a problem.
