RISCH: Positive about youth

| September 6, 2019 1:00 AM

Negative or Positive. Fear or Hope.

The Aug. 25 Press editorial outlined a conversation with Sen. James Risch, who said one of his great privileges is nominating outstanding young Idahoans to appointments to our military academies. Interviews with these young people and their parents leave his confidence in the future burnished to a golden optimism. He comes away “feeling really good.” The editorial goes on to state that fear is public enemy No. 1, largely because it isn’t always recognized as the destructive force that it is.

I want to say how good it made me feel to hear something positive from our senator about the young people of today. This in contrast to the photo on page C7 of the same paper showing a picture captioned “The face of culture in America today” — a group of people wearing dark masks, ballcaps and sunglasses as though not wanting to be recognized. What a contrast to Sen. Risch’s young people.
