HISTORY: Lincoln born in Kentucky

| September 6, 2019 1:00 AM

I write this letter concerning the article in Sunday’s paper about Route 66. It was a nice article about a well-known piece of American history.

That said, though, there was one detail in the article I took issue with: it claimed that Springfield, Ill., was where President Lincoln was born and where he is buried. He is buried there, that part’s true, but Lincoln’s actual birthplace is at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park south of Hodgenville, Ky.

Though Lincoln did spend much of his adult life in Illinois (giving Illinois the nickname “Land of Lincoln”), he was born in Kentucky.
