WELCOMING: A virtual circus

| September 4, 2019 1:00 AM

On Aug. 30, while coming into Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene on Interstate 90 in holiday traffic, I experienced a virtual circus on the highway. Ramps were crowded with police vehicles and flashing lights and overpasses were choked with fire trucks with spot lights and flags hanging from them.

I called the state police and found that it was some type of organized welcoming for a wounded service person. However, it was taking place on a busy highway and traffic was dangerously fouled up from Post Falls to Coeur d’Alene.

I was glad that the state police were not involved because this was insane. We have parks and safer places to have such a celebration or recognition, and I hope this circus did not cause any accidents with its mayhem.

Come on local decision makers use your common sense, this was extremely dangerous and wasteful. Hopefully, the citizens of this area were not paying for the police and fire to participate.

Perhaps it is time we started strategizing on how not to send our citizens abroad to fight wars that accomplish nothing and leave our citizens dead and wounded.
