FULCHER: Answer Syria questions
Last week the U.S. House voted 354-to-60 against Trump’s sudden withdrawal of troops from Syria (see govtrack.us, H.J. Res. 77, Oct. 16). I was surprised to find out that our Representative, Russ Fulcher, was one of the 60 nay votes while the Idaho 2nd District Rep. Mike Simpson, also a Republican, voted yea.
Since both represent Republican majority areas and have access to the same information, their difference in voting bothered me. The difference suggests I don’t have all the facts to make my own good judgment. I want to understand their thinking on this important issue affecting long-term national security. Note that Senate Leader McConnell introduced similar legislation last week.
I contacted the Congressman’s offices to understand the issue better, but Fulcher has not responded as he has on other issues. I hope people in the wider Coeur d’Alene community see this letter and decide to call/write to Fulcher with their own questions. Whichever “side” you take is not my point. The point is that unless there are enough people writing and calling, Fulcher, Simpson, Crapo and Risch have little incentive to answer simple, legitimate questions from ANY side. Please help me in getting a response from Fulcher on the Syria issue.
