CITYLINK: Monument to the elite

| October 30, 2019 1:00 AM

I can’t believe it! A year or so ago the veterans who can’t afford a car or the gas, the young people who work at menial wages, the elderly who can no longer drive to their doctor and some with their only enjoyment is the casino to offset their loneliness, and others were so relieved and joyful to read that, at last, the commissioners, the City Council, the comfortable, well-off had agreed to build a Citylink building that would protect them from the rain and snow while waiting for their bus let alone for a restroom if in need.

So, finally, a building was built. Guess what? A building that takes up that space and car parking is exclusive as offices for the elite with sidewalks and landscaping (expensive) and locked outside restrooms — the bus riders who live on the edge STILL must wait in the rain and snow. What in God’s name has happened to the Coeur d’Alene that I once remembered? A caring community, without the ugly high rises that block the view.
