WALLA WALLA, Wash. — David Ramirez stopped six shots for the Cardinals in his first start for North Idaho College, but Erick Perez’s goal was the difference in the Walla Walla Warriors’ 1-0 Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

“David did a really good job and moved the ball around really well,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said.

The match was called in the 89th minute due to a broken goal post.

“We had a free kick and were getting our guys into the box,” Thompson said. “One of our guys, Zack Feierfeil, was on a run and couldn’t slow down and ran right into the post and broke it. The posts were a foot and a half into the ground, so the referees deemed the field conditions unable to play and called the match. Both the posts had some dents, and the one that broke had some dents and some tape on it where Zach broke it. It’s not a bad field, but the goals could have been in better shape.”

NIC (5-8-3, 3-6-2 NWAC, 11 points) concludes the season against Spokane on Wednesday at Spokane Falls Community College starting at 6:15 p.m.

Walla Walla (6-3-7, 3-2-6, 15 points) is in fourth in the East Region and out of playoff contention.

First half — 1, WWCC, Erick Perez (unassisted), 22:31. Second half — none.

Shots on goal — NIC 6, WWCC 7.
