BERNSTEIN: The ethical option
This letter is in response to the Oct. 17 front-page article about Jillian Bernstein in the Coeur d’Alene Press. How this kind of article rates as front-page news is beyond me.
It seems to me that now the ability to win an election is based on how much dirt you can dig up on your opponent. As an imperfect, somewhat normal person, I have found that most of us have said or done something in our lives that we wish we had not done or done differently. We certainly don’t wish it to be on the front page of the newspaper. If we continue to treat prospective candidates this way, soon no one will want to run for any office and we will be represented by back-stabbing, underhanded people who will do anything to win. I do not want to be represented by these people. We should not reward these people with an election or re-election victory under any circumstances. I think their motives, methods and lack of feelings for other people is despicable.
By the way, Jillian Bernstein is getting my vote on election day.
