CITYLINK: Still out in the cold
This summer all of us who ride the Citylink bus watched the building of the transit center facility and eagerly waited for the opening of this modern building, where we would have real restrooms and a warm waiting room. The building is finally open but not to those who are using the buses.
The users are the elderly, the disabled, the poor, those who have no cars or money for gas, young mothers with several children in tow, or just ordinary citizens trying to get to work at their minimum-wage jobs or going home with two or three bags of groceries. No. The building is for a handful of paper shufflers. The riders have benches out in the cold.
The two times I waited there the bathrooms were locked. Riders must disembark on one side of the building and walk to the other side to wait for their bus, even if it is the same bus they got off from. Sorry — I don’t see any improvement in service, only a cost to taxpayers. Those who designed the system could walk in our shoes to realize what is needed.
P.S. Should be a corner for smokers; they are people too. Away from other passengers. Saying no smoking anywhere on property only challenges them to light up anywhere they please. Every third or fourth person was smoking.
