Check that: Coeur d'Alene boys earn top regional seed via coin flip
- BOYS
Upon further review, it came down to a coin flip to determine the top seed to the 5A Region 1 boys soccer tournament after all.
With Tuesday’s win over Sandpoint, Post Falls clinched a perfect 6-0 record against 4A opponents, what the Trojans believed to be a tiebreaker to determine the top seed after the Trojans and Coeur d’Alene finished 4-1-1 in 5A Inland Empire League play, and split their two head-to-head matches.
However, Coeur d’Alene only scheduled Lakeland once, eliminating that tiebreaking scenerio.
With all other tiebreakers exhausted, Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene flipped a coin on Thursday morning, with the Vikings winning the toss and receiving the top seed to regionals.
In Saturday’s semifinals, Coeur d’Alene will host fourth seed Lewiston, and third seed Lake City will travel to second seed Post Falls. Both games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday’s winners qualify for the state tournament Oct. 24-26 at Rocky Mountain, Eagle and Meridian High, and will play for seeding next Thursday in the regional title game at 3:30 p.m., at the highest seed remaining.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Cameron Dance had four goals and two assists for the Vikings in a romp over the Bulldogs under the lights at Viking Field.
Drake Prohaska had two goals for Coeur d’Alene (8-2-1), which hosts Lewiston in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
“It was a drama-filled week for our team as a whole,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “It started off with the news about us potentially not being first place in the league. Struck down, but not destroyed, we prepared to play Lake City in the first playoff game. A misinterpretation of the rules and a bit of a chance, we got the news that we actually were indeed first place. In our rightful place going into the match, we were ready to go full fledge into the Bulldogs. They came out very strong, challenged us in the air and were able to possess better than any other team against us this season. Playing on the football field under the lights took a minute to adjust to, but once we figured it out, there wasn’t a team in the state that could have gotten in our way.”
