Gonzaga women’s fan

fest set for Saturday

SPOKANE — Gonzaga women’s basketball hosts its annual fan fest in the Kennel on Saturday.

The fan fest will be the public’s first look at the 2019-20 women’s basketball team that returns two starters and seven letter winners (including sophomore forward Melody Kempton from Post Falls High) from last season’s squad that finished 29-5 overall and 16-2 in West Coast Conference play. The Zags closed the 2018-19 season with their 15th WCC regular-season title and 11th NCAA Tournament appearance.

The doors open for the event at 3 p.m.; fans can mingle with the team and coaches from 3-3:30 p.m. and pick up women’s basketball tickets from 3-5 p.m. on the ‘63 Court in Martin Centre. The event will begin at 4 p.m. with the 2019-20 intro video followed by player introductions, manager introductions and coaching staff introductions. Head coach Lisa Fortier will close introductions with an address to the crowd.

Following introductions, the event will feature a hot shot contest, 3-point shooting contest and a four-quarter controlled scrimmage with each quarter lasting four minutes. The scrimmage will conclude the action on the court, and the players will be available for autographs in the east lobby following play. Posters will be provided by Gonzaga marketing staff. No outside items will be allowed in during the autograph session.

Fans are reminded that Gonzaga Athletics began implementing additional security measures at events at the McCarthey Athletic Center last season, and are asked to allow for extra time to get through.
