GUNS: Look at the law
I am here today to educate and hopefully help people to understand the Second Amendment.
Let’s first cover how court cases have affected gun rights in America and clarify some common ignorance.
First, a common argument is that “The Second Amendment only applies to muskets.” Well, according to a 2016 Supreme Court case, Caetano v. Massachusetts, this is completely wrong as this court case determined that the Second Amendment applies to all instruments that are bearable arms. Another constantly overlooked court case is District of Columbia v. Heller. This court case determined that it is the right of the American people to bear arms unconnected to a militia. So to say that the Second Amendment only applies to militias would be wrong by law.
Now let’s remind people why we have this critical amendment. Firstly, let’s look at the Hong Kong situation. We have seen a tyrannical government suppressing and preventing protest and the protesters become forced to accept this resolution since they have no way to defend themselves and to prevent this from happening. We take for granted what our Second Amendment is for and what it allows. We need to revive our sense of pride in being American and defend our rights before we lose our great privilege in this world.
So please before you say something, research and be open-minded. It’s the least you can do to make the world a better, more educated place. Have a great day everyone.
