Everett McGregor, 77

On Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, our real-life superhero, Everett McGregor, left this land of the dying to live forever in the land of the living. He worked against the cancer overtaking his body for two years with his eyes looking up, and when it was obvious it wasn’t a battle he was meant to win on this earth, he gracefully ended the fight, quitting treatment just months before his death.

Everett was an overcomer; instead of being beaten down by the many challenges he faced from earliest childhood throughout his life, including the death of his mom at age 12 and the absence of his father, his trials became the materials and fuel to build a life of honor, integrity and not only courage, but valor.

He was a man who deeply loved his Jesus, his wife, his family, his country, his music, his books, his collections, his friends and his curry! He was a college graduate, a veteran, an incredible artist and he worked many varied jobs, including — but not limited to — interior decorating, horse ranch management, working in an oil field, logging and he ultimately went on to jewelry design during the last three decades. No matter what he did, he was a teacher. Everett married the love of his life, Barb, on June 27, 1970, and was passionately and faithfully in love with her until the end.

He was cherished by his children and grandchildren and leaves behind daughter, Shanna; son Rex; daughter, Laura (Nick); grandchildren, Olivia, Zane, Elijah, Evan, Rachelle, Nick and Emily; and his steadfast, beloved sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Roger Hanson; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and the most precious friends! He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Roy and Myrtle Bessie Klossner; daughter, Dara; sister, Dixie Carl; brother, Rex; and nephews, Michael and David Hanson. Everett was, like all of us, imperfect — but what a treasure he was to all who knew him. Words fail to describe what a loss we suffer as we watch him go before us.

We will long for the day that we see him again. A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Hayden Bible Church, 290 E. Miles Ave., Hayden, Idaho. In keeping with Everett’s anticipation of treats, a dessert buffet will follow.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints …”
