Carol Denny, 77

Carol Rae Tranmer Denny was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, after an extended illness on Sept. 26, 2019, surrounded by loving friends and family.

A longtime resident of Coeur d’Alene, Carol was born in 1942, in North Dakota, the daughter of Ralph and Sophie Baenen. She graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1959 and trained to be a flight attendant and worked as a bookkeeper for a lumber company. Carol married in 1961 and became a wonderful mother of four children while helping run the farm. In 1974, the family started a new venture in Alberta, Canada and later moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1977. While Carol was raising kids, she was known for her interest in trying out new skills — everything from sewing, ethnic cooking, oil painting, upholstering, photography, skiing, square dancing and more. She was always eager to explore the outdoors with family and friends in Canada, North Idaho and the surrounding wilderness with hiking, backpacking and camping. She joined Girl Scout leadership for her daughters and was the best Girl Scout around!

As Carol’s children grew up and married, she lovingly welcomed grandchildren into her life. She also served as president of the local Parkinson’s support group. Wherever Carol went, she offered a great sense of humor and a loyalty to relationships that drew people in and kept them close. Some of her greatest joys were spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, adventures with numerous long-time, special friends and visiting North Dakota to reunite with her family. Those close bonds were the key to her life.

Carol is survived by her son, Jaime (Cynthia) Tranmer and daughters, Teresa Tranmer, Ronda (Jeff) Lamping and Sheila (Brad) Sonntag; seven grandchildren: Devin and Adam Sonntag, Nate, Megan and Cara Lamping and Siyah and Nathaniel Luera; brothers, Dennis and Michael and sisters, Donna, Bonnie and Debra. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth; her husband and the father of her children, Charles Tranmer; and later by her husband, Norman Denny.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the entire staff at Brookdale Assisted Living and The Lodge Assisted Living, Crest Hospice: Nurse Cheryl, Special Care Provider Angela, Social Worker Diana and Chaplain Marla.

We will greatly miss our mother, but we joyfully imagine her dancing and running in fields of flowers in her forever home, until we meet again!

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. Christian Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, at St Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, followed by a reception at St. Pius. You may leave condolences and sign Carol’s online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.

From the hymn Amazing Grace:

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,

and mortal life shall cease,

I shall possess, within the veil,

A life of joy and peace.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
