GUNS: NRA of old is gone
I would like to thank both Rick Palagi and Paul Oman for their thoughtful letters to the editor Friday, Nov. 22 about hunting and guns.
Rick’s letter warmed my heart because his recollections mirror mine, going hunting with my Dad and brothers every fall and winter, when fallen leaves and frost decorate the landscape.
I too was an NRA member, very proud of the NRA patch on my orange hunting cap.
Fast forward to today. I too canceled my NRA membership when they became a very partisan organization run by people who were trying to “cash” in literally on fear and paranoia.
I own and enjoy guns and would gladly register the ones that I own that may not be registered in my name.
Finally, I want to thank Paul as I was not aware of some of the information he brought up regarding the NRA. I will fact check and research those ideas. As a gun owner, I take my responsibility very seriously and concur with many people that something needs to be done to keep guns out of the hands of those who would do harm to others.
I resent the seeds of paranoia being sewn by the NRA. With the possible exception assault weapons, I believe it is untrue that our government would ever try to remove guns from the homes of law-abiding citizens. It just is not physically possible and it is paranoid and delusional to believe that could or would ever happen in the USA.
