Lake City holds off Boise
COEUR d’ALENE — Guard Aubrey Avery hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points in the second quarter, and the Lake City Timberwolves went on to hold off the Boise Braves 58-55 in the season opener for both schools on Friday at Lake City High.
“It was kind of a key moment for us,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “We had (Brooklyn) Rewers on the bench in foul trouble, and Aubrey kept us in it and kept our energy up.”
Rewers finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Kendall Pickford had seven points and four assists for Lake City, which hosts Mountain View of Meridian today at 1:30 p.m.
Mountain View beat Lewiston 66-23 at Booth Hall in Lewiston on Friday.
“We didn’t do a great job against their press until late in the second half,” Anderson said. “Once we settled down, I thought we were efficient and got a lot of clean looks at the basket.”
Peyton McFarland, a 6-foot-4 post who signed with Utah earlier this week, finished with 25 points for Boise, which plays at Lewiston today.
“She did a good job on the offensive rebounds,” Anderson said of McFarland. “I thought Brooklyn did a good job on her, but with her out of the game, we kind of struggled with her size.”
