D-DAY: Locals in re-enactment
Saturday, June 1, our son Ken Nussear will fly to England and France to participate in the re-enactment of the 75th anniversary of D-Day. He was in the Army’s 82nd Airborne, seeing action in Kuwait and Iraq. Ken was invited and is honored to participate in the re-enactment.
March of this year brought necessary re-qualification training as a paratrooper in Florida, jumping with the older style “round” parachute. Additionally, he has learned to fold and re-pack the older style parachute.
June 4 will be a “jump” of more than 200 paratroopers at Duxford, Cambridgeshire, England, with the re-enactment on June 5 in Sannerville in the former commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region of France from historical planes, C53, DC3 and C47.
Ken was able to find and purchase the period uniform and parachute.
Karen Nussear, a teacher in Fernley, Nev., is able to travel to France as well, bringing back to her school, re-enactment history this year and next.
All of the participants are self-funded with pride of being able to be a part of the 75th re-enactment of the D-Day invasion.
