Winfred (Windy) Royal Green, 85

Winfred (Windy) Green, 85, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Kootenai Health on May 22, 2019.

Windy was born in Davidson, Okla., on March 29, 1934, to Oscar and Minnie Green. Born the youngest of the family, he joined siblings Rude, Gail, Glenn, Clyde, and Willa Mae.

He graduated from Davidson High School in 1954 and joined the Navy. He served his country for four years.

While stationed at the Naval Air Station in Oceana, Va., (Virginia Beach), he met the love of his life, Mary J. Battlo. They married in Kimball, W.Va., on Oct. 24, 1959, and added four beautiful daughters to the family: Winifred Anne (Wendy) Valaydon-Pillay, Christina (Tina), Julia McNinch and Linda.

Windy and his family lived in Kimball until 1980, when he and Mary moved their family to Coeur d’Alene. Windy was employed by the Idaho Transportation Department until his retirement in 1996. He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, photography, painting, taxidermy and woodworking. Second only to his family, his passion was being outdoors: camping, hiking and going on long walks looking for treasures. He and Mary were thrilled to welcome seven grandchildren into their lives: Zach, David, Kramer, Julia, Brandon, Adam and Heath. Three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Camden and Nevaeh, have added to their circle of love.

Windy has now been reunited with Mary and their daughter Wendy, along with his parents, brothers and sisters.

At Windy’s request, no formal services will be held. An informal celebration of his life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Idaho Conservation Fund.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
