POEM: A Soldier

| May 26, 2019 1:00 AM

I volunteered to serve in this army knowing I would die

Yet somehow aware of the honor, it was worth a try.

Fighting along side those longing to be free and

Understanding the broken as being only parts of me.

But I see how unhappy you are today

So I wanted to tell you what I heard Father say.

First He showed me pictures of you and all those I love

And told me every moment was consecrated and chosen from above.

He said to remind you there is always a time and always a season.

Though we may not know the reason; it is always love.

Then He asked me a question that He asks everyone on this day

And I knew only one answer would allow me to stay.

So I took a deep breath and wondered away

About what He could possibly want to know or say

Would it be about how much money I gave or my denominational sway,

Or would it be about the many different times I’ve gone astray?

With no way to calm my trembling heart

He looked deep into my soul and

Instantly I knew.

It was not because I was a Christian, Muslim or Jew.

Or because I had fortitude

Chutzpah or balanced Chi.

But only because I love Him

And my neighbor more than me,

Would I know His peace in eternity.

Then we walked together, His Son and me,

To behold wonders no man has seen,

Peace.
