Shirley Mae Hatfield, 90

Shirley Mae Hatfield was born to Edwin and Caroline Dahl on Feb. 18, 1929. Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Dagmar, Mont. Shirley married Gene Lobdell in November 1947. She was 18 years old. They had two children: a daughter, Charlene, and a son, Michael. Shirley and Gene later divorced.

On Sept. 21, 1966, Shirley married Donald Hatfield. They settled in Great Falls, Mont. When Don retired from the Air Force in 1977, they purchased five acres of land near Blanchard, Idaho, and built a house there with help from friends and locals in 1978. It was their “retirement in the country” home. After Don died in 2006, Shirley managed the home on her own. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, dancing and decorating inside and outside for every season and holiday.

Shirley is survived by her children, Charlene (Michael) Luzynski and Michael (Alice) Lobdell; four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren.

Shirley peacefully passed on to eternity while surrounded by family on Friday, May 17, 2019. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Shirley’s name to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
