PROJECT: Keep our culture intact
Let’s start with the facts: A large subdivision called Hayden Canyon was approved in 2013 in Hayden. According to the county map, the property in question is approximately 609 acres. You can view the 500-plus page staff review on the city of Hayden website (http://cityofhaydenid.us/news_detail_T3_R171.php).
You can look at the developer’s master plan at this website https://haydencanyon.weebly.com/master-plan.html. It includes land set aside for a new school (which by the way we desperately need!). Go and look at it. I know change is hard, but it is not intrinsically bad.
Now, let’s get to my opinion: I keep hearing these general statements like, “I moved here (big number here) years ago and now all these people are moving here and ruining it,” or “those d**rn Californians are ruining our beautiful city.” I’m sorry, but seriously? It is that attitude, that discrimination, that negativity and prejudice that is ruining our beautiful local culture! (I think it is noteworthy that the owner is from Pennsylvania.)
Come on locals. You love this place, you grew up here, you raised your family here. YOU know what a special community we have. Let’s not ruin it by being judgmental and prejudiced. Let’s just plan ahead for the impact on the existing infrastructure, plant trees and provide open spaces to preserve the beauty that is already here. Let us request that they build beautiful homes where kind people can come and contribute their skills, knowledge and money to our existing community.
You weren’t using the 609 acres anyway.
