Timberlake falls short of trophy

| May 19, 2019 1:00 AM

IDAHO FALLS — For a third time in three years, the Timberlake baseball got close, but came up short in the consolation final.

Jack McDonald and Ray Knerr had two RBIs each for Timberlake, which lost to Weiser 11-10 in eight innings at Melaleuca Field in the state 3A consolation championship on Saturday.

“We didn’t come out on top, but it was just a huge, huge effort for our kids today,” third-year Timberlake coach Cameron Knigge said. “We got down in the sixth and seventh inning, but got it to extra innings. This one is going to sting for a bit, but they shouldn’t hang their heads. It was a phenomenal game.”

Timberlake finishes 17-10-1.

Weiser beat Timberlake 16-7 on March 29 in Payette.

“I’m very happy with our season,” Knigge said. “We were lucky to get a chance to play some games in southern Idaho earlier this year, and hope to continue that next year. From where we were at the beginning of the season until now, the kids grew a ton. They’re hungry for more, and we came within inches of bringing something home.”

Weiser finishes 14-13.
