L-C State women announce signing

of Genesis Prep guard Schroeder

LEWISTON — When Brian Orr went through his assessment sheet, he saw that Rachel Schroeder had what he wanted for his Lewis-Clark State women’s basketball team.

“She checks all the boxes in what we look for in a recruit,” said Orr of Schroeder, a 5-8 point guard from Genesis Preparatory Academy in Post Falls. “She is a scoring point guard who possesses a high basketball IQ, a great court vision, and the ability to get the ball to the open teammates on time.”

Those attributes enabled Schroeder to lead the Jaguars to successful seasons throughout her high school career. Genesis was the North Star League champion during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and added a third-place state finish her sophomore year, second place her junior year, and fourth her senior season.

She earned all-league recognition throughout high school and was the North Star MVP as a junior. She was a second team all-state choice all three years and a team captain since she was a freshman.

“Rachel is an outstanding 3-point shooter with deep range,” Orr said. “She uses that strength to set up the rest of her game.

“She plays with a poised, confident demeanor and at the same time is a fierce competitor.”

Schroeder also is her class valedictorian as well a NISTAR and DAR recipient, and was on the winning North Idaho College Math Contest team and the President’s Honor Roll all four years of high school, and was a North Idaho Top Scholar. She also played volleyball and golf.
