KENT, Wash. — North Idaho College’s men’s golfers played better in Monday’s second round, but couldn’t make up enough ground to catch Community Colleges of Spokane in the two-day Highline Showdown event at Riverbend Golf Complex.

For the second straight day, Cardinal golfers Tyler Jones and Nick Roberts matched each other, shooting 2-over-par 74s to lead NIC with two-day totals of 149, good for sixth place among individuals.

As a team, NIC shot 295 on Monday to finish at 600 strokes, 12 behind first-place Spokane. Will Alexander led the Sasquatch, shooting a 3-under 69 on Monday to earn medalist honors with a 2-under 142. Also competing for Spokane was Coeur d’Alene alumnus Chase Mitchell, who tied for 20th with a 155.

In women’s play, NIC finished sixth among 10 teams. Jessey Simons led the Cardinals with a 169, tying for 13th place.

Both the NIC men and women’s golf teams will compete in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on May 19-20 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
