CLIMATE: Not so fast, Dave

| May 3, 2019 1:00 AM

Response to David Coppom’s letter, titled PRESS: Don’t Report Green Side.

First of all, Mr. Coppom, you are asking The Press to suppress free speech, and restrict itself, for freedom of the press and speech are guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Second: It is interesting to note that all U.S. intelligence, defense and military agencies have agreed that there is a link between our national security and climate change. There are a several White House security strategy documents, dating back to 1991, that cite climate change as a security threat to the United States.

The 2019 National Intelligence Strategy Report mentions serious strains on world governments, including: “growing influx of refugees fleeing conflict, areas of resource scarcity, areas threatened by climate change, infectious diseases,” etc.

Refusing to believe respected scientists who report on climate change, and ignoring these government agencies warnings also, seems an excuse to do nothing. A report from 1994 is worth reading: nssarchive.us/NSSR/1994
