RAPE: Set record straight

| May 1, 2019 1:00 AM

Dear Judge Meyer:

I was in the process of writing a letter to the editor to the Coeur d’Alene Press. Two days ago, the enclosed two letters were in the paper (they are enclosed in case you don’t read the paper). I have to ask, how in the world can you justify a 30-day sentence for a rapist? The Press stated that he will have to register as a sex offender in the state of Idaho. I am praying that was a misprint and that he will be registered as a sex offender wherever he goes (like 30 miles to the state of Washington to be with his dad).

His father, Spokane Police Detective Harlan Harden, like any parent, wants to protect his son. But what I would like to hear from you is that you can honestly tell me what the sentence would be if Detective Harden’s wife or daughter were the ones raped by someone else’s son (everything else being equal)? If I do not hear from you within a week, I will assume it would be a different outcome and I will then submit my letter.

Please text or call me as a letter may not arrive by the end of the week. Thank you so much for your attention to this matter.

CHERYL MILLER
