Lakeland: There is tying in baseball

NAMPA — It wasn’t a win.
But it also wasn’t a loss.
Lakeland opened its season with a 7-7 tie against Blackfoot at the Buck’s Bags tournament at Skyview High, as the Hawks were finally able to open their weather-delayed season.
Isaac Silva drove in three runs and Jaret Taylor scored two runs for Lakeland, which led 5-0 after two innings.
“I was really impressed with the way we came out to start the game,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “For not having played until this point, I thought we did a great job in all phases. We set the tone early, but then as the game went on, for some reason, we went flat and let them back into it.”
Justin Dennison allowed two runs and two hits over four innings on the mound for Lakeland, which faces Canyon Ridge and Skyline today at Rodeo Park in Nampa. Blackfoot rallied with five runs in the top of the fifth before the game was called due to a two-hour tourney time limit.
“It’s a shame to come away with a tie,” Bradbury said. “Justin did a great job on the mound, and should have come away with a win. Our relief pitchers just didn’t back him up. Nonetheless, we had a lot of positives to build on and I’m excited to get back out on the diamond tomorrow.”

Annie Stinar hit a two-run homer and finished 3 for 3 with four RBIs for Centennial.
“It’s just awesome getting down here and getting on dirt, and getting to play good teams,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “But the biggest thing is getting on dirt.”
