HEALTH CARE: Best bill is goal
In the past, we have spoken on the need for improved health care coverage here in Idaho. During my campaign I commented numerous times on the need to improve health care for all Idahoans, and that sentiment has not changed. The reality is that in the Idaho House there are not enough votes to pass a clean Medicaid expansion, or repeal Medicaid expansion. Given this reality, I have been working pragmatically to get the best bill possible for the citizens of Idaho.
The vote on HB 277 accomplished two important objectives. First, the House vote acknowledged, legislatively, that Medicaid would be expanded in Idaho. Second, my vote was cast to start the process of working with the Senate to pass the best health care bill possible. The Senate will have the ability to review HB 277, and vote on possible improvements.
As you know, one body cannot enact a law. Both the House and Senate need to work together, agree on a law, and have the governor sign this law. By working together with the Senate and the governor’s office, I am confident we can craft a health care solution that works for Idaho.
