Timberlake swept in baseball opener
CLARKSTON, Wash. — You have to start somewhere.
For Timberlake, that start was in Clarkston on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers fell 12-8 and 15-5 to the Bantams in a nonleague doubleheader, the program’s first games after having the previous seven postponed due to snow.
“Our pitching was below average today,” Timberlake coach Cameron Knigee said. “We had a lot of walks, but the nice thing was we got to play. We kind of approached it like spring training, and we got to see a lot of guys on the mound. We hit the ball fairly well also. It was just good to be out on the grass. Now we’ve got something to work on in practice.”
Statistics were not available.
Timberlake will compete in the Weiser Invitational against Weiser, Payette, Parma and Sugar-Salem starting next Friday in Weiser.

LEWISTON — The Coeur d’Alene girls swept in doubles to open the season against the Lewiston Bengals late Tuesday in Lewiston.
“It was nice to get the rust off,” Coeur d’Alene girls coach Laura Taylor said. “We got a lot of matchees in, played a lot of three-set matches. It was just nice to be outside and get a feel for it again.”
Justin Jaworksi notched a three-set win for the Viking boys.
“I thought we played well,” Coeur d’Alene coach Dan O’Connor said. “For our first time outside and being in a real match, the kids played hard. It would have been nice to get a few more wins, but the kids played well. I was proud of our guys.”
