LEVIES: A modest proposal
We’ve lived here 18-plus years seeing all these school levies pushed upon the voters! I would think if the state Legislature would consider allowing only ONE public school district per each county totaling 44 Idaho counties, that would allow millions of dollars to be put into state budgeting for public schools and would give teachers and classified employees more money! Too many chiefs — cut the excess, raise graduation rates and standards!
Idaho currently has 115 public school districts, 1.6 million population — a total ripoff of taxpayers, especially fixed income seniors like my wife and myself with no children or grandchildren in Idaho public schools. Seniors should get tax breaks from paying school taxes!
We lived in Nevada 36 years before we moved here. Nevada has 23 counties, just over 4 million population and approximately 30 public school districts. Much less bureaucracy is good simple math. Cut the excess pork, state leaders and live within your means. Cut excess waste, eliminate pork and allow only one public school district per county! Time to smarten up. Give all taxpayers a break, especially senior citizens.
