DALTON: Beware comp plan
I am a volunteer member of the Comprehensive Plan Committee. Our Committee meets by invitation with the Planning & Zoning Commission to re-write the Comprehensive Plan for Dalton Gardens. We began this process in March 2015, reviewing the existing Comprehensive Plan for the Residential and Commercial Districts. In 2017 residents came to open houses to express their views on the future of Dalton Gardens. This input from our citizens was a very important part of the process of re-writing the Comprehensive Plan.
In November 2017, the Dalton Gardens City Council unanimously voted to hire an out of state consulting firm to develop a plan for the Commercial District. The City paid the consulting firm $15,099.17 for the plan. The consultant’s plan recommended creating several Commercial Districts, including a Mixed-Use Commercial District, allowing residences above businesses. This recommendation by the consultants could allow the City Council to approve apartments in the Mixed-Use Commercial District.
On Feb. 12, 2019, Planning and Zoning held a Public Hearing on the Comprehensive Plan Draft. Dalton residents spoke out against allowing residences and apartments in the Commercial District. Planning and Zoning will hold a workshop in the near future to discuss the comments from their most recent Public Hearing. However, the Mixed-Use Commercial District is still in the current Comprehensive Plan Draft.
The City Council will have the final vote on the Comprehensive Plan.
On Tuesday, please vote FOR recalling the Mayor and all City Council members.
