BILL: Make children safer
Guns in school debate roars? First off, I find it amusing that only those AGAINST House Bill 203 were featured in the article.
Now as a father of a fourth- and a second-grade student, I support this bill, and yes I have read the bill. I believe this bill will make my children safer if and when any teacher or school administrator chooses to carry their own firearm concealed.
I know teachers are not enforcement officers and this bill does not require them to be enforcement officers, it simply allows some teachers that choose to carry a firearm concealed to be the last line of defense if, God help us, some crazy nut with a gun decides to attack my kids’ school.
School districts do not need to be set up for a teacher to carry concealed, they just do. The schools do not have to “ARM” teachers, teachers will carry their own personal firearms if they so choose to carry. There are no requirements by schools to carry extra insurance by House Bill 203.
I do agree that if a teacher chooses to carry concealed, they should be required to let the school administrators know and they should be required to do extra training because making shots in a civilian-rich environment does require greater accuracy and skill of which can only be obtained through more training than a concealed permit requires.
