LEVIES: Leave seniors alone

| March 7, 2019 12:00 AM

Thank you, Stephanie Gossard, for writing in to The Press and expressing what so many of us out here are feeling. Especially us seniors. We’re all just as frustrated and tired of being asked, once again, to vote yes and fork over more money, more money, more money, which raises our taxes again and again and again.

Not too long ago, another senior expressed his frustration in a letter and the response given was how the “seniors” would benefit from passing school levies. After reading each and every “benefit,” it once again proved to me how stupid the school districts think we are. There was not a single positive outcome that would benefit us seniors. Stop whitewashing the real use or should I say, misuse of school funds. We aren’t blind and we’re certainly not stupid. Stop treating us as if we are!

When our children were of school age, we gladly supported the school levies because we believed that our children would be on the receiving end and back then they were. Sadly, this does not seem to be the case today. We’re 65 years old, so that gives you some idea how long our children have been out of the school system. We’ve paid our dues to the schools and we should not be asked to pay for the education of present day and future children. As Stephanie stated, where is the revenue from all the new homeowners? How about those who rent or own condos? Let those who have children in school pay for their own children. It’s their turn!

We’ve worked hard to get where we are today, are retired, on a fixed income, and we’re done with everyone coming to us for a handout every time we turn around. Our present and future votes for any and all school levies will also be 100 percent “NO!”
