Coy Sands

St. Maries High School

The 5-foot-10 senior guard played a key defensive role in the Lumberjacks’ runner-up finish at the state 2A boys basketball tournament last weekend in the Treasure Valley. “Coy has been assigned all season to shutting down a team’s best player,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “It was quite evident in the state tournament when he held leading scorer Stockton Brown from West Side to 12 points, first-team all-state player Lars Sutton from Ririe to 5 points and then state tournament MVP Garrett Hawkes (of North Fremont) to 22 points. In the final game to qualify for state vs Grangeville, he held Trey Dreadfulwater to 12 points. He just works so hard on defense and takes alot of pride in being a great defender. Teams down south complimented us that they have never seen a team this physical. Coy definitely leads us in that attribute.”
