DALTON: Recall is only option

| March 5, 2019 12:00 AM

Like it or not, the Dalton Gardens recall is happening. The Press editorial, refusing to acknowledge the merits of the recall demands that to avoid unpleasant feelings there be no recall, instead waiting for a future election in which only three of the five seats will be up for election. No doubt the Press writer would have argued that President Nixon should not have been impeached, and instead of forced resignation should have served out his term of office, until the next election. Or that an unsafe airline pilot nearing retirement be allowed to continue without correction.

Indeed, the Press writer claiming (falsely) that since there would be no immediate adverse impact to the community nothing need be done. Much like a doctor seeing a patients’ lifestyle would soon be fatal to the patient, chooses to do nothing, until the patient’s death becomes an irreversible future event.

Dalton Gardens council has long ignored our concerns. If Council were the least concerned regarding community division they would turn from their path of urbanization. They refused to, leaving no options but recall. The time and means to stop Council’s reckless disregard of community safety, property values and quality of life is now with this recall. That was the choice of Council, make no mistake about it. They must all be recalled as their record of unanimous voting demonstrates.

Since this Council has been so damaging, so divisive, it is difficult to imagine that temporary appointments would be worse. Recall equals reset.
