POLICE: Who you gonna call

| March 1, 2019 12:00 AM

The city of Post Falls did very well in making Scott Haug the chief of police. He will be missed, but the police in the city of Post Falls were very wise to hire the next chief from within so that all their well-developed programs will continue.

The masters of the city of Coeur d’Alene did not do that type of thought and hired our chief who then hired what could only be described as his bodyguard from Arizona. Having a son with severe autism who does strange things sometimes, people call the police on my son. A recent interaction which was positive, prompted me to call Chief White to compliment his officer. I told him I want to talk to him about complimenting one of his officers, but he chose not to return my numerous calls.

When Scott was chief in Post Falls and he was not in, his answering machine would give you his cell number if you really needed to call. I wonder what Coeur d’Alene would be like if we had a chief of police like Post Falls, a chief who is interactive in the community and not just have coffee once a year, but actually spoke to the citizens without wearing his flak jacket (his idea) because a court settlement forced him to and would actually return phone calls to people when they have good things to say about the cops or even bad things.
