TRUMP: Nothing righteous here
In a May 31 letter to the editor, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, gets gonged twice. Ron Vieselmeyer, the gonger, thinks the speaker has said some things about the president that weren’t very nice. But even worse than that, he insists that she’s not “righteous.” Say again?
Could it be that Mr. Vieselmeyer is righteous? Can’t say. Don’t know the man. But I do know about Trump, about his philandering, his attacks on our Constitution, values, etc., and his general disrespect for others. His lying. The corruption and incompetence that mark his administration … it’s all on open display and has been for some time now. So, how can anyone support this man … and unconditionally, at that, as Vieselmeyer seems to do? The point is, in fact, that they do and, ominously, I’m afraid, in rather large numbers.
Pelosi’s delay in bringing up articles of impeachment is based largely — as she’s made clear — on the belief that the citizenry only needs to be better informed. Once they learn the facts of the matter, they’ll come around and until they do, impeachment is not politically viable. That’s the reasoning, as I understand it.
So, an apt metaphor might have Pelosi at the podium in a lecture hall. A hundred students are enrolled, but only 60 are there. She waits and she waits some more for the hall to be filled, until someone raises a hand and says, “We’re here. Please pay attention to us. We’re the 60 percent.”
On the matter of impeachment, the Constitution doesn’t require a quorum or roll call. Let’s just get this wagon, this big, slow moving thing, rolling now. All who take a notion can get on board later. We’re all Americans. We’re all getting the shaft.
