POST FALLS — For 31 minutes and 59 seconds, Post Falls hadn’t led all night.

Which makes that last second all that more important.

Junior Katie Fleming drove the length of the court and scored on a layup at the buzzer, lifting the Post Falls Trojans past the Lewiston Bengals 64-63 in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both schools on Tuesday at The Arena.

Fleming — who finished with a team-high 14 points — returned in mid-January after being sidelined due to an ACL injury.

“Tonight was the first real minutes she’s played this year,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Tonight, she came in and did a great job for us. She was kind of her old Katie self, and we’ve kind of been missing that this year.”

Post Falls trailed 49-40 after three quarters.

“Our bench kids (Laney Smith, Kennedy LaFountaine and Maya Blake) kind of got us going,” Allert said. “It was just an awesome job tonight and total team win.”

With the win, Post Falls (5-16, 2-4 5A IEL) will be the third seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament, visiting second seed Coeur d’Alene (6-10, 3-3) on Friday. Lewiston (9-11, 1-5) will be the fourth seed, playing at top-seeded Lake City (18-3, 6-0) in the other opening round game Friday.

Kendyll Kinzer scored 22 points for Lewiston.

Sandpoint 38

Lakeland 34

SANDPOINT — The Bulldogs only managed two points in the first quarter and trailed by as many as 11 in the third, yet held the Hawks without a field goal over the final 9:32 en route to a 4A Inland Empire League victory at Les Rogers Court.

Lakeland (8-11, 3-1) could have won its first outright league since the Intermountain League in 2003 — and still could, if Sandpoint loses at Moscow on Thursday.

However, Lakeland still finished with the No. 1 seed to next week’s 4A Region 1 tournament. The Hawks would hold the tiebreaker over Sandpoint based on point differential in their head-to-head meetings — Lakeland beat Sandpoint by 14 points at home on Jan. 18.

Lakeland sophomore Katy Ryan finished with a game-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Alaina Pruitt contributed four points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Dawson Driggs led Sandpoint (5-13, 2-1) with 14 points.

Sandpoint and Moscow will play in the first round of regionals Monday at North Idaho College. Lakeland will play the winner on Tuesday at NIC in the first game of a best-of-three series, with the winner advancing to state.
