COEUR d’ALENE — Post Falls, spurred on by six individual champions, ran away with the team title at the ninth annual North Idaho Rumble on Saturday at Coeur d’Alene High.

Since its start in 2011 when host Coeur d’Alene won the team title, Post Falls has won the tournament the last eight years.

“It’s kind of hard to believe,” said Post Falls coach Pete Reardon, in his 10th year as coach. “We’re super blessed to have a program that we’ve gotten rolling and kept rolling. We’ve had good parents, and coaches that have wanted to buy into what we’re trying to do and be a part of it. To hear eight-straight (titles), that’s pretty humbling to be a part of. Our kids are wrestling well right now. They’re attacking, scoring points and having fun competing. It’s been good to be a part of.”

Roddy Romero (98 pounds), Braxton Mason (106), A.J. De La Rosa (138), Ridge Lovett (145), Wyatt Shelly (170) and Terran Sharbrough (285) won titles for Post Falls, which finished with 296.5 points.

Chandler Axtell (120) and Colton Boettcher (160) won individual titles for Lakeland, which finished second with 166.5 points.

“Both Chandler and Colton just wrestled hard this weekend,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “They’re just putting it together right now and watching them flow on the mat so well, it makes a coach happy.”

Riley Siegford finished runner-up at 132 for Lakeland.

“I was pretty happy with our performance,” Edelblute said. “We had a few guys step up and win, and some kids with some minor hiccups. Hopefully we’ll have them ready by districts.”

Gunner Giulio beat teammate Garrett Ashby in the 152-pound final for Coeur d’Alene, which finished third with 156.5 points. Nick Dohm (182), Hunter Schueller (126) and Nolan Randles (138) finished runner-up for Coeur d’Alene.

“I think we’re getting better each day, but need to get everyone healthy,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “I was really happy with the effort by our guys all weekend. Overall, we had a lot of bright spots. They’re improving all the time, and I really like that as a coach.”

Other area champions were Timberlake’s Isaiah Evans (126) and Joey Follini (182), as well as Kellogg’s Judson Hall (132) and Evan Barajas (113) of Bonners Ferry.

“It’s wrestling at the end of January,” said Lake City coach Corey Owen, noting most teams held a few guys out for various reasons, with the state-qualifying tournaments just three weeks away. “We’re all trying to get healthy for the postseason.”

For the first time, a separate girls tournament featuring 20 wrestlers was also held at the Rumble.

“Having a girls-only tournament was really neat this year,” Moffat said. “It was nice to give them a chance to wrestle under the spotlight.”
