GARAGE: Codify common sense

| January 27, 2019 12:00 AM

There comes a time when common sense is the right thing to do. The recent decision by the Coeur d’Alene Planning and Zoning Commission is unacceptable. If there isn’t a category that covers common sense decisions then it’s time that the mayor and City Council revise the Planning and Zoning Commission’s written guidelines to include making common sense decisions.

The city of Coeur d’Alene took a big hit with the community and building contractors over this incorrect decision on a variance. In my opinion, the city should reimburse the contractor for the dumb decision of Planning and Zoning.

Editor’s note: Community Planning Director Hilary Anderson says the majority of the P&Z committee were following city code in denying the variance.
