COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City finished off a perfect 5A Inland Empire League season Friday night, but not without weathering a strong showing by Coeur d’Alene.

Lake City led by 10 points after one quarter, only to see Coeur d’Alene take a one-point lead after three quarters before the Timberwolves pulled away in the final 3 minutes for a 43-37 victory over the Vikings on Friday night at Lake City.

Klaire Mitchell hit two first-quarter 3-pointers and led finished with 14 points for Lake City (18-3, 6-0), which finished unbeaten in league for the first time since the 2003-04 season. Chloe Teets and Dejah Wilson also hit first-half 3s, and Aubrey Avery added a trey in the second half.

“I think all the teams are going to try to slow us down, and take away everything in the paint ... and make us make shots,” Lake City coach James Anderson said. “But our kids responded, and shot the ball well, and I think they’ll be ready to shoot it in districts as well. Because of our inside game, we tend to get clean looks from the 3-point line. We actually shoot a high percentage from 3; we’ve played 21 games this year, and we’ve shot a higher percentage (than our opponents) in 20 of the 21 games.”

Kelly Horning led Coeur d’Alene (6-10, 3-3) with 12 points.

Lake City will be the No. 1 seed, Coeur d’Alene the No. 2 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament. Lewiston plays at Post Falls on Tuesday, with the winner earning the No. 3 seed to regionals, the loser taking the No. 4 seed.

Next Friday, Lake City will play host to the No. 4 seed, and Coeur d’Alene will be home against the No. 3 seed.
