Cardinals get reversed

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Two weeks ago, North Idaho College handled NAIA Eastern Oregon at Christianson Gymnasium.

On Friday, the Mountaineers turned the tables on the Cardinals.

NIC won just two matches, both by pin, by Jake Malchuski (174 pounds) and Connor Sullivan (285) in a 38-12 loss to Eastern Oregon.

NIC closed the regular season 9-6 in dual matches.

NIC, ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA poll, beat Eastern Oregon 40-9 on Jan. 10 in Coeur d’Alene, in the program’s first match since interim coach Brandon Richardson took over for longtime coach Pat Whitcomb.

The Cardinals are scheduled to host the West District Championships — formerly the Region 18 tournament — on Feb. 10 at Christianson Gymnasium.
