Holder, Haeg lead St. Maries past Priest River

ST. MARIES — Trailing by one at intermission, the St. Maries girls basketball team outscored Priest River 14-4 in the third quarter to claim a 40-27 nonconference home victory on Monday night.

“Jenna Holder stepped up for us,” Lumberjacks coach John Cordell said of his 5-foot-9 post player, who had 15 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Kaci Haeg had 11 points and five rebounds, while Madison Cordell had eight assists and three steals for St. Maries (11-5), which travels to Grangeville on Saturday.

Makia Fitsmorris led the Spartans with 13 points.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Royals opened a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back, improving to 9-0 in the Mountain Christian League with a victory Monday evening at Holy Family Catholic School.

Imelda Bresee had 16 points and 23 rebounds for North Idaho Christian (16-3 overall). Savannah Seeley had 11 points and Riley Anderson had six assists and 10 rebounds for the Royals, who face Spokane Classical Christian at 5:30 tonight at the Spokane Fitness Center.

Sydney Abbey’s 19 points led Classical Christian Academy of Post Falls.
