New flight training opportunity in Hayden

| January 18, 2019 12:00 AM

HAYDEN — Kootenai County pilots will soon have a new training tool right in their own backyard.

Latitude Aviation has purchased a Cessna 310 multi-engine airplane for instruction toward multi-engine instrument and commercial pilot certificates, as well as crew and solo rental after completion of the appropriate ground, simulator and flight training curriculum. The training will be based at Pappy Boyington Field in Hayden.

“We are really excited to add this offering to our range of services to local and regional pilots,” said Jeff Fouche, chief flight instructor and co-owner of Latitude. “Multi-engine airplanes are far and few between in this area. Ours will bring this crucial training opportunity to our local area for pilots and students wanting a career in aviation and the airlines.”

Multi-engine time is often an important first step to getting an airline job, Fouche said. With a worsening pilot shortage creating national headlines, he said, commercial pilots have never been in higher demand, and pay and incentives being offered to even new commercial pilots are unprecedented.

The aircraft is a Cessna 310B, a multi-engine airplane Fouche said is considered by most pilots to be capable, stable, and fast.
