North America is home to some beautiful cities, and CarRentals.com has decided that Coeur d'Alene is No. 5 on that list.

"If going for a cruise along the shoreline of one of the most beautiful lakes in Idaho sounds like your idea of a great vacation, look no further than Coeur d’Alene," reads the blog at www.carrentals.com/blog/33-most-scenic-towns-in-north-america. "See if you can hit the floating green on hole 14 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course. And if you want to play cowboy for the day, head over to Red Horse Mountain Ranch and learn how to throw a lasso from the back of a thoroughbred."

The "33 Most Scenic Towns in North America" list lures readers to the open road to dive "straight into places of wonder" and escape everyday life.

"Some may think the perfect vacation is lying on the sand on a beach somewhere far away. Others may think it’s exploring a giant city one bar and restaurant at a time," reads the intro. "And then there are those — like yourself — who enjoy firing up the engine of a car and hitting the open road without a care in the world and a map as the only companion."

CarRentals.com "scoured the entire continent" to find these delightful drive-through towns. Some are famous for historic neighborhoods, others are known for proximity to national parks or scenic highways.

The Lake City ranks fifth behind snowcapped Sitka, Alaska, picturesque Santa Cruz, Calif., outdoorsy Squamish, British Columbia, and historic Bristol, R.I.

Coeur d’Alene beats Boise, which is in sixth place, as well as locations in New Mexico, Minnesota, Nova Scotia, New York, Vermont, Colorado, Hawaii and more.
