Sherman Richard Snyder

Sherman Richard Snyder, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away on Jan. 6, 2019, at Hospice. Sherm was born in Helena, Mont., in 1933. He was the son of Richard and Annabelle Snyder. His family later moved to Boise, Idaho, where he graduated from Boise High School in 1951.

Sherm was commissioned in the United States Navy and became a helicopter pilot. While stationed in Elizabeth City, N.C., he met the love of his life, Aline Yvonne Bray. They were married for 57 years before Yvonne preceded him in 2013. Sherman’s military career spanned 24 years, where he served in Vietnam, became the commanding officer of Helicopter Squadron HS-3 and retired at the rank of Navy Commander.

After retiring from the Navy, Sherm and family relocated to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1974. Sherm enjoyed the outdoors, fly-fishing and hunting; he also loved animals, especially horses.

Sherm is survived by four children: daughter, Lisa, sons, Timothy, Kenneth and Steven; nine grandchildren: Kara, Samantha, Nathan, Stephanie, Jonathan, Kathryn, Serena, Devin and Amanda; and three great-grandchildren, Lilah, Josie and Annabelle.
