Jane Welsh, 97

Jane F. Welsh, age 97, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died Jan. 10, 2019. She was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Scudder and Melicent (Baldwin) Farlee. Her family moved to Michigan and finally settled in Southern California. Jane almost completed her college experience at Pomona College in Southern California when WWII interrupted her quest. She married William P. Welsh Jr., who served with the United States Army Air Corps. While over Yugoslavia he was shot down, became a POW, and Jane didn’t know his status for over a year.

After the war they shared three children: William P. Welsh III, Susan D. Richardson and Mary Jane Coon, who all survive her. Jane has four grandchildren: Shaun, Jennifer, Michelle and Sarah, and one great-grandchild: Marissa. She is also survived by nieces, Beth Thompson and Anne Larsen.

Jane stayed at home to raise her three children and joined the workforce after Mary Jane left home, becoming the librarian at Hoag Memorial Hospital until retirement. Mom was an avid traveler, enjoyed walking and loved knitting. She served as the senior warden at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin, Calif., and served in the altar guild at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Altadena, Calif.

Jane lost her husband of over 63 years in July of 2007. She resided in the Renaissance at Coeur d’Alene for the past five and a half years, and was the most senior resident when she passed away.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. Jane will be buried with her husband at Foothill Memorial in Altadena, where a graveside service will be held later this year. Yates Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements, and you may visit Jane’s online memorial and leave condolences at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
