Verna June Jenkins, 86

Verna June Jenkins, 86, went peacefully to her eternal home on Jan. 9, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family at her home in Hayden, Idaho.

June was born to David Wesley and Elouise (McMillian) Martin on Feb. 8, 1932, in Wheatland, Wyo. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1950, and after her children were grown she attended North Idaho College, where she earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management. She worked at NIC in the Student Union for several years and made many dear friends.

June loved quilting, cooking, gardening, camping and her country. Most of all, she loved her family and was loved in return. After her retirement from NIC, she kept herself busy making quilts for family and friends. When she discovered Quilts of Valor, she wholeheartedly embraced honoring our veterans with comforting quilts, making over 100 quilts. She was able to honor her grandson, Cameron, with a Quilt of Valor on the night of Jan. 6, immediately upon his return from Iraq. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Kathy) Jenkins of Athol, Idaho, Susan (William) Carter of Coeur d’Alene and Erin (Katy) Jenkins of Blanchard, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Laura Jenkins of Hayden; brother, David (Maxine) Martin of Hayden; grandchildren, Nadja, Jennifer Jenkins-Toprak, Jesse Jenkins, Carolyn (Tyler) Burnett, Jessica (Derek) Ridge, Kristina Jenkins, Jeremiah Jenkins, Loren Jenkins, Elianna Jenkins, Rebecca Mackin, Ross Jenkins, Christopher Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins and Cameron Jenkins; and several great-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her husband, David Jenkins, and sons, James Jenkins and Shawn Jenkins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
